Freeplay

Choose Freeplay if you already know how to play, or just want to noodle around. Play music by sliding the leaf up and down. Simple. If you are using an iPhone, or have a mic attached to your iPod touch, select Blow mode in the settings menu. Then go ahead and blow gently.

  • Lighted pegs alongside the leaf represent the pitches in a major scale
  • Halfway between the pegs is a half step in the scale
  • Shift the octave higher or lower by pressing the up and down arrows

But wait, there's more! Select your preferred playing style from the settings menu.

  • Touch mode or blow mode
  • "Snap to pitches" means the Leaf will play your intended note even if your finger doesn’t quite hit it
  • Choose your root note

With Leaf Trombone World Stage's three octave range, half note capability and root note selection, you can play practically any music!

Preview/Practice

Not ready to play on your own? That's OK.

Choose Preview or Practice and you'll learn to play faster than you can say "Leaf Trombone: World Stage". Here's what you do:

Select a song from the Leaf Trombone: World Stage Library, an ever-growing repository of songs composed by Smuleans from all over the world.

Then, tap Preview. The Leaf will play for you, lighting up the pegs and rolling open and closed as it goes.

When you're ready to play along with the Musicbox, press Practice. You'll play the Leaf Trombone, guided by the lighted pegs, and the Music Box will play the accompaniment for a rich, full sound.

Perform

Here's where we separate the music gods from the mere mortals. Welcome to the World Stage!

Judge, be judged or just watch and listen. It’s up to you.

Every time you play a song, you get a token, or a credit toward your world tour. Before you know it, you’ll be steeling your nerves to perform before a massive global audience. But don’t get cold feet or you’ll lose a token!

Register your Leaf Trombone stage name and you will be invited to join a global panel of judges. You will be asked to evaluate someone else’s performance. Use emoticons and brief messages to encourage others to either perform more, or to, um, practice more.

Too shy to play? No worries, kick back and participate as a merely appreciative audience member.
